Turning Point Re-Entry Program

The Turning Point Re-Entry Program aims to help inmates re-enter society and break the crime cycle by providing a broad range of services and aftercare. Initial contact will begin post-release for up to twelve months.

To qualify for the program, offenders must be male and:

  • In the Essex County prison system
  • Currently struggling with co-occurring disorders and substance abuse
  • Served a sentence longer than six months
  • At high risk for relapse into criminal behavior
  • Weakened or non-existent family support system
  • Inconsistent work history, resulting in unstable housing

How we can help:

  • Discharge and transition planning
  • Individual weekly case management
  • Residential and outpatient alcohol and substance abuse treatment referrals
  • Employment and healthcare referrals
  • Peer mentoring and advocacy
  • Child care referrals
  • Transportation
  • Education and job preparation/placement
  • Life skills coaching

We aim to provide this life-changing support by ensuring case mangers meet with clients immediately after release and weekly thereafter for up to twelve months.

Turning point is a research project, overseen by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office. The research data collection and evaluation will be overseen by the University of Massachusetts Lowell. These supervisory agencies report their findings to the U.S. Department of Justice every month.
