I Remember Mama Honors Dr. Mallika Marshall

May 9, 2017

iRememberMama_2017_163On Saturday, May 6, Volunteers of America Massachusetts presented the Susan Wornick and Myrna Billian Community Leadership Award to physician and medical anchor Dr. Mallika Marshall, MD, at its 22nd Annual I Remember Mama brunch. Volunteers of America Massachusetts President and CEO Tom Bierbaum presented the honor to Dr. Marshall for her contributions and dedication to the health of women throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.

In accepting the award, Dr. Marshall expressed her gratitude to the women of Boston:

“I feel like I’m with family because most of us are women—mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters— who know how difficult it is to juggle your life with so many other responsibilities. My most important work is done with ladies like you and I’ve been so inspired by the morning I’ve spent here.”

I Remember Mama is a brunch celebration for women who may otherwise be forgotten on Mother’s Day. The brunch, which includes live entertainment and gifts, is a free annual event for its special guests– older women from low-income housing and assisted living facilities throughout Boston, and clients from Volunteers of America’s Hello House for Women and Shiloh House residential recovery programs. I Remember Mama is made possible by community support, local sponsors, and the transportation services donated by the MBTA.
