Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF)

According to the Veteran's Administration, only 8% of the population can claim veteran status, but veterans make up 20% of the homeless population. Volunteers of America and Father Bill's & MainSpring are committed to assisting veterans who need our help in Greater Boston Area.

The Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) program focuses on assisting veterans and veteran families at risk of losing their current residence or in need of a permanent residence. Services are provided through the collaboration of Volunteers of America and Father Bill's & MainSpring. Together, we are preventing homelessness, increasing housing stability, and enhancing the independent living skills of very low income veterans and their families.

 

Our approach is simple... we're here to support you.

Through the SSVF Program, we provide help through outreach and case management services, assisting participants to obtain VA and other public benefits. We provide short-term intensive case management for individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Services provided and arranged for include:

  • Financial Planning Assistance
  • Housing Placement Assistance
  • Employment Referrals
  • Healthcare Referrals
  • Family and Individual Counseling Referrals

How can you qualify? 

In order to qualify you must be a veteran who is single, or a family where the head of the household if a veteran. The veteran should have served in active military and discharged or released under condition other than dishonorable (DD-214 required)

Participants also must meet one of the following three categories and meet set income requirements:

Currently residing in permanent housing and at-risk of losing housing
Currently homeless, residing in transitional housing or staying in a shelter and scheduled to become a resident of permanent housing within the next 90 days
Left permanent housing within the last 90 days in response to an emergency situation

We are serving the Greater Boston area, including Suffolk, Norfolk and Plymouth Counties.
