Norfolk County Reentry Mentor Program
The Norfolk County Reentry Mentor Program
The Norfolk County Reentry Mentor Program is a new initiative to combat the problem of recidivism. Volunteers of America will partner with the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the Second Chance Mentoring Program in the cities and towns of Norfolk County. Our mission is to return offenders to their community with an enhanced sense of self-worth and specific knowledge and skills to increase the chance of a successful reentry. The proposed evidence-based and holistic program will include mentoring during and after incarceration; case management and transitional support services; and comprehensive training for mentors.
INSPIRE AND GIVE HOPE!
The mentorship program begins before the offender is released from jail and continues throughout the one year mentor-mentee commitment. By matching experienced volunteer mentors with offenders that are soon to be released, a bond will be formed between mentor and mentee. As this relationship develops through weekly contact, the program will help the individual offender develop life skills to facilitate a successful transition to society.
