Development Intern

We are looking for an energetic, articulate, self-directed, and organized Development Intern to support the Development activities of the Development Department at Volunteers of America Massachusetts in Jamaica Plain. This position works directly with the Development and Volunteer Coordinator.  The Development Intern will assist with supporting event activities, updating donor database, researching opportunities, and volunteer coordination. The Development Intern will gain professional skills and deepen his/her understanding of development and fundraising in the non-profit sector.

You will be given guidance on and gain skills in the following areas:

Developing and executing supporter events

Developing and maintaining social media channels

Developing fundraising materials

Volunteer development

Non-profit program administration

Report writing and editing

 

We expect you to come with the following skills/attributes:

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word

Familiar with database fundamentals

A strong work ethic and “can do” attitude

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong commitment to detail; ability to organize and prioritize work to meet concurrent deadlines

Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Flexibility and resourcefulness

A strong desire to contribute to the mission of a growing non-profit service organization

A strong sense of  your career plans and goals, why they would like to work at Volunteers of America Massachusetts, what skills they would like to develop, what they would like to achieve at Volunteers of America Massachusetts, and how they would like to reflect back on their time here. 

Timeline:
Intern positions are designed to be in line with the school calendar.  We are looking for a intern who can work in the Fall/Spring/Summer seasons working through for a minimum of 16 hours each week.
