On Mother’s Day, many of us send cards, flowers, and gifts to celebrate one of the most important people in our lives ... Mom. However, on this special day some elderly mothers find themselves alone and forgotten. Volunteers of America Massachusetts remembers these women by inviting them to its “I Remember Mama Luncheon” where they are pampered, honored and loved.
The I Remember Mama Luncheon lifts the spirits of each woman by providing an unforgettable afternoon of fine dining, gifts, entertainment, companionship and smiles - at no cost to the guests. The ladies who attend, truly enjoy this day of special recognition, and most importantly, the knowledge that they are appreciated by their community.
Imagine a mother, grandmother or individual who faces Mother’s Day alone. Whether she is separated by miles, has outlived her family, or is forgotten by loved ones, this day should be a special one for her as well, and you could make the difference. Last year, with the help of individuals, corporations and volunteers, The 12th Annual I Remember Mama Luncheon was a great success, honoring over 300 elderly mothers from the Boston Neighborhoods of Allston, Brighton, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury and South Boston. Today we are asking you to remember the women of Boston who have nurtured our community unselfishly for years. The I Remember Mama Luncheon is a fundraising event organized by Volunteers of America. It provides a wonderful day for elderly women who, for a variety of reasons, would otherwise be alone on Mother's Day. It also helps to support the wide variety of services provided by Volunteers of America Massachusetts.
