"BUSES FOR BASEBALL"

Varitek and Cora of the Boston Red Sox and youth volunteers from the Boston Action Team treat 50 at-risk and mentally disabled youth to an unforgettable day at Fenway Park

 

Volunteers of America Massachusetts along with players from the Boston Red Sox and high school volunteers from the Boston Action Team teamed up to provide at-risk and mentally challenged youth an experience of a lifetime as part of the annual “Buses for Baseball” visit to Fenway Park on June 12th, 2008.

 

The “Buses for Baseball” trip treated 50 youth from the Volunteers of America Rebound Program and the Cardinal Cushing School for the mentally disabled to a fun-filled day at Fenway Park.

Rebound Adolescent and Family Treatment Center

Upon arriving at the ballpark the youth were escorted to the field to watch batting practice and meet their heroes from the Boston Red Sox including Boston Action Team captain Alex Cora, center fielder Coco Crisp, team manager Terry Francona and outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury.  The youth also received free souvenirs, food and beverages.

 

“Buses for Baseball,” is an annual Program administered by the Major League Baseball Players Trust and Volunteers of America Massachusetts.  The event provides transportation, game tickets and personal greetings from players to underprivileged children.
